This is an exciting time to join PanAust, a copper and gold producer, with operations in Laos and a large pre-development project in Papua New Guinea. PanAust’s producing assets in Laos are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, managed by our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining. Both of these operations are delivering strong production and cost performance. PanAust holds an 80 per cent interest in the Frieda River Copper-Gold project in Papua New Guinea, one of the largest known undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world, which will become a long-life open-pit operation. The strategic direction of the Company is to maximise returns from its producing assets while advancing pre-development projects that offer potential to sustain and grow the business in the long term.

This position is based in our regional shared services office, located in the Lao capital of Vientiane, and is offered on a fly in, fly out roster that includes travel in company time. The package also includes a housing allowance for accommodation in Vientiane, so that you have the freedom to enjoy the attractive expatriate lifestyle the city has to offer. Operating as PanAust Asia, our shared services team provides strategic and transactional support to our Lao operations and projects across a range of functions including Government and External Affairs, Finance, IT and Human Resources.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for providing a centralised business partnering service to the mining operations. The position will require frequent travel to our operations and at certain times to be located at the operations to support the site based Finance Superintendents and Senior Business Analysts in providing a high level of value-add service, costing support and analysis, and continuous improvement in our month-end reporting systems and processes. Your superior financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting and analytical skills will be critical to identify cost reductions and produce efficiencies for Phu Bia Mining.
Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills will be critical to the ongoing development and performance of the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. Your key responsibilities will include:
Deliver monthly reporting and analysis of operating and capital costs
Support monthly forecasting, budgeting and month end processes
Maximise the use of business tools and management reporting, using strong financial modelling skills to support continuous improvement
Work as a partner to the site based Finance Superintendents and Senior Business Analyst, working alongside them to assist in delivering a high level of customer support to operational managers and superintendents
Support provision of strong business intelligence, including life of mine modelling and cash-flow analysis
Develop excellent working relationships with Vientiane and site based personnel
Provide training of staff in the use of key business tools, budgets and costing fundamentals to improve their knowledge of the financial impacts of the business
Support the departmental cost reviews held monthly with Managers and Superintendents
To be successful in this role, you will require:
Qualification in a related discipline (eg, Finance, Economics, Accounting).
Previous experience working in a similar role, ideally within mining, heavy industry or manufacturing
Strong financial modelling skills essential
Ability to work proactively as part of a team and build strong relationships with key internal customers
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Well-developed Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation development skills
Unwavering safety focus
